Pruning - When New England Arborists, LLC prunes trees and bushes, we practice what is called Plant Health Care. Plant health care is a proactive approach to tree care by the proper pruning of trees and shrubs. This practice provides suitable air flow that can dry out any possible fungal issues. It also removes dead, dying or diseased limbs that can lead to disease spread. Sunlight encourages new growth. Maintaining healthy plants can be the best defense against insects and disease. We like to think of ourselves as educators, too. So if you have any question related to your tree or shrubs health and care, please call us. We are here to help.
Deep Root Fertilization - The majority of a tree's or shrub's roots are actually found within the 6-12" depth range of the soil. Often, grass or a small garden bed is found around the base of a tree. While this is aesthetically pleasing, the grass and plants on top end up with most of the nutrients from rain and decomposing natural materials. To off-set this, we deep-root fertilize. A probe is inserted into the ground around the drip-line of a tree or shrub and fertilizer is injected into the ground at 300-500 psi. The high-pressure from the injector also serves to aerate the soil allowing much needed oxygen to enter. Insects & Disease - Regular inspection of trees and shrubs is necessary to keep insect and disease damage minimal and manageable. An arborist has an understanding of tree and insect biology which aids to predict any defects a tree or shrub may suffer as well as knowing the best time of year to treat any fungal or insect issues. By practicing Plant Health Care, the amount of toxic pesticides released into the environment is reduced drastically. Because Plant Health Care is a preventative approach, the plant and its requirements become the central focus rather than response to symptoms. Anti-Desiccation - Ornamental trees and shrubs dry out during the cold winter months. Applying an anti-desiccation covers evergreen leaves and deciduous nodules in a waxy coating, effectively closing them so they do not lose water. This is helpful in preventing winter burn and sun scald to the leaves.
Inspections - New England Arborists, LLC will come to your property and assess the current health of your trees and shrubs. We will provide you with a written report defining tree species, any defects or issues we notice and recommendations for maintaining the health and well-being of your landscape. Cabling - Cabling can increase the safety of a tree that has multiple stems or a deep v crotch. When installed correctly, cables decrease the movement of the upper portion of a tree, often preventing damage from heavy winds and storms. Cabling is also used to prevent or restore damage(d) hedges of arborvitaes, training the shrubs to stay in line. We also practice what is called 'guy wiring'. We use tension to train trees that have grown skewed to return to a more vertical position. Bark Tracing - Sometimes the bark on a tree splits. This happens for a variety of reasons. There could have been a heavy frost that caused damage to new bark tissue, or someone could have accidentally wounded the bark. Left open, cracks are an open invitation to insects and diseases. Bark tracing is the practice of cutting around the split bark to remove the crack. Once the crack has been removed, a tree in good health will produce new tissue over the area, entirely covering the delicate wood inside. Soil Testing - Everything begins with the soil. While often overlooked, it is imperative that your soil is healthy and balanced. We test soil for ph balance and recommend what, if anything, needs to be addressed. If you have any questions, we'd sure like to hear them. Snow & Ice Services - Snow plowing and ice control measures are a necessary service during New England winters.
